Review

Game Translator allows you to edit the language packs normally included with game programs, so that you can translate them into the language you would like to see displayed in your game. The program supports over fifty games, including Armageddon Empires, Broken Sword 2, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, and, using plug-ins, you can also add new games. This application does not change games themselves, just the texts found in language definition files, language translation files or other text formats that are used in games to show instructions, character names, environment descriptions etc.

I had a slight problem downloading and launching the program: it requires the bulky Virtual Basic 6 runtime files and Java Runtime Environment 6 files. When launched, the program presents a Windows-style interface from which you can select the language packs that you want to edit from the table displayed. Game Translator also allows you to configure or adjust the default settings to suit your own requirements and the table style interface is easy to navigate. The program features the reading and writing of language packs in many different formats and languages, including Unicode.
Advantages
  • Enhances game play.
Disadvantages
  • Requires VB6 runtime files.
